Survival

Well folks, I made it through another week of school. No bloody noses, melt downs, or car crashes so I'd chalk it up to be a total success. I hope everyones week was as great as mine and if it wasn't there is always happy hour :)

Hasta Luego

First snow

I drive around 55 miles to get to work most days. Usually,  I don't mind the little haul I take because It gives me time to eat my breakfast, enjoy some coffee, and listen to morning talk radio. This morning, however, was not so relaxing. Why is that you ask? Well the answer is simple.  SNOW

Ugh! Snow my worst nightmare.  I don't like driving in bad weather(especially snow) and with last year being so nice, I was more anxious than usual to get behind the wheel. Needless to say, I had to give myself a little pep talk before crawling into my car.I thought to myself  "hey, piece of cake it's not that bad out". Boy was I wrong!

The road I take to Pipestone is far from busy which makes it bad for traveling during the snowy winter months. The snow piles up on the road and becomes extremely slippery. Sounds scary, I know. This morning alone I witnessed 4 cars go into the ditch before 7:30 am. Jeepers!  Thankfully, I was not one of them.
The good thing about this weather? It sure is pretty and it gives me an excuse to wear my scarfs!

Sorry the pictures are so blurry. I share a classroom with the music teacher in the mornings and it doesn't exactly have the nicest lighting.

The power of flowers

Simply put. Flowers are awesome!  When I was younger, I never understood why my mother always bought fresh flowers until now. Because they rock and can make everything better.

Today was one of those days. I walked into my classroom and a grin immediately came upon my face. One of those smiles you can't hide from. I had no control over the giddy expression on my face and I didn’t care! My smile was quickly preceded with blushing after the realization that I was not the only person in the room. My students were staring and were very curious as to who sent me flowers in a box. So after answering some of their needling question I was finally able to enjoy the sweet smell of my fresh flowers.

Getting flowers is an amazing feeling, it’s one of those things that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. One feeling I know I'll never get sick of!

Art and Crafts

If you know me, you know I am not very crafty. I have horrible hand writing and don't have a single artistic bone in my body. This "flaw" can make thing a little more difficult when it comes to lesson planning for my younger students. Most of the activities we do are very visual and hands on. In order to do this, I have to demonstrate.(Yikes)

Pictured below is my last attempt at making a project for my first grade students. Although, they don't look pretty this site word activity was a huge hit. The kids loved to roll the word dice and make sentences with pronouns, nouns, and adjectives. Who knew creating a sentence could be so much fun?!?!

Flash Mob

A few weeks ago was our school homecoming. A couple teachers had thrown around the idea of doing a flash mob to surprise our students. With my dance background it was a no brainer to put me in charge. Abby, a fellow teacher cut the music while I was in charge of the dance. We managed to get a pretty large group of teachers together and practice before the big PEP rally. It was a totally sucess, the kids loved it!
Clink on the link to watch the short video from KSFY. Enjoy

Going to the Chapel

So this past weekend, Matt's brother Jeremy got married. the wedding was absolutely perfect. I was lucky enough to be included in most of the wedding fun. Which made for a very long and lazy Sunday. My 25 year old body doesn't quite jump back from a long night out like my 21 year old self did. So yesterday I spent the majority of my day nursing a pretty bad hangover. Yuck. thank goodness I feel better today. Nothing worse than having a headache and hanging out with children all day...not a good combination.
