Guten Tag

TGIF Everyone! This weekend I’m off to Rochester to spend some quality time with my main squeeze but before I do, I thought I’d share a glimpse of my teaching world with you.

Every Friday morning, I pack up all my school materials from town and haul it 15 miles west of Pipestone to the Heartland Hutterite Colony. Going to the colony can be somewhat of a challenge for me. The culture there is totally different than what I'm used to.  Most of my students think I'm strange because I wear "English Clothes" and Jewelry, so they often ask me "why are you wearing that, you look funny?"
Other than not agreeing on my wardrobe choices most of my children hate learning English! German is the main language spoke at Heartland and English is very difficult for them-its like going to a totally different country! I feel very out of place most days
During my time at the colony, I see about twenty kids ranging in ages 5-15 in a little over two hour. Having so many kids, at different ages, for such a short period of time, can be tough.
Sorry for the Long post but stay tuned for more stories about these crazy kids! They can be extremely entertaining!

Here a few pictures of my German speaking friends

Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice

So, the other night I had an extreme ITCH to bake something. The only problem was I had no baking supplies on hand and was in no way motivated to run to the grocery store with cookies on my brain (that could turn ugly). My roommate Tara and I made a quick decision to do a drive by at a nearby gas station. Tara picked up a bag of marshmallows and some popcorn and we were set.

Vuala! Popcorn balls!

Not exactly baking but it was close enough for me!

What you'll need:
1 bag of large Marshmallows
1 stick of butter
2-3 bags of popped popcorn

Combine butter and  Marshmallows in a large pot over medium heat, continually stirring until melted. Once all the marshmallows have melted pour over popped popcorn. Mold popcorn into desired size balls and place on a cooling rack. Be careful not to burn your hands.

So easy and Delicious!

Hey...

Welcome to Teaching in Heelz! Thanks for stopping by and checking it out!  Over the next couple months, I will be sharing a little piece of my world with you -- everything from clothing to my failed attempts at cooking.  I'm thrilled to finally be starting a blog and I hope you'll enjoy these posts as well. To kick things off,  A little about myself.
Enjoy!
